报告一:Towards Virtual Breeding using Functional-Structural Plant Modelling
报告人:Prof. Gerhard Buck-Sorlin, National Institute of Horticulture and Landscape,
Dept. Horticultural Crop Sciences, France
报告内容简介:Knowledge about the physiological mechanisms that link genes to measurable traits such as plant height and grain yield is valuable as it enables improved breeding and yield prediction. In this presentation a case for the use of “virtual breeding”, or “model-assisted breeding” using virtual plants (functional-structural plant models) will be presented. At the example of barley and rice an outline of the principle of this novel approach and the demonstration of some proof-of-concept for a model combining primary production, morphology, and a QTL genotype will be provided. The current limitations of this approach will also be discussed.
报告二:Prediction of the 3D structure of the Oryza Sativa Phosphate Transporter 8
报告人:Guy Baudoux, a research fellow from GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals, the Vaccine Division of GSK, Belgium
报告内容简介:Presentation of the prediction method, evaluation of the computed 3D models and proposal of experimental work.
报告人简介:
Prof. Gerhard Buck-Sorlin:
Having obtained a Ph.D. in plant biology from the University of Wales, Great Britain, in 1997, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Buck-Sorlin took up several positions as a postdoctoral and senior scientist at the Institute for Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK), University Göttingen, the Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus in Germany, and Wageningen University in the Netherlands. During this time he also worked as a lecturer in 3D and crop modelling at different universities, and as a guest professor at Zhejiang University between 2006 and 2008. In 2011 Prof. Dr. Gerhard was invited to take up a position as a full professor of fruit arboriculture and modelling at the French National Institute for Horticulture, a school of higher teaching for horticultural engineers. Meanwhile, he is a member of several scientific boards in his field and has also worked as a reviewer for many scientific journals. Research interest: 3D crop modeling with extended L-systems, phenotyping, ecophysiology, study and description of biological processes, computer graphics, plant morphology and morphogenesis, genetics of barley, QTL mapping and analysis.

Guy Baudoux is working in Belgium, in GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals, the vaccine division of GSK. He is member of the Bioinformatic unit of the R&D department, and in charge of predictions of the 3D structure of proteins. He is on leave from his company for 3 months, to work in Zhejiang University. Before working in GSK, he has worked for a long time in the chemistry and the biology departments of the University of Namur, Belgium.
