报告内容简介:Ecophysiology-crop simulation models and quantitative trait loci mapping are two independent tools that aim to predict crop phenotypes. Simulation models are computer programs that use environmental and physiological knowledge to predict the phenotype – from daily behavior to final yield. However, these models need to be calibrated for each variety (genotype), a process that yields variety-specific model parameters and at the same time underscores the fact that these parameters contain hidden genetic information. On the other hand, QTL mapping methodologies are powerful analytical procedures designed to identify, locate, and quantify the effect of genes that control traits that shape the phenotype throughout growth and development. However, QTL mapping does not provide the integrating and dynamic abilities of simulation models. Yet, these two phenotype-predicting approaches can be combined to develop a tool that can predict the phenotype of a crop solely based on its genetic makeup and inputs describing its surrounding environment.
