报告内容：In the Department of Biomaterial Sciences, The University of Tokyo, biomass utilization chemistry is conducted from various points of view. This Department consists of 5 laboratories related to biomass chemical utilization and 3 laboratories related to material science. These are:“Biomass chemical utilization”,Forest Chemistry, Wood Chemistry, Paper Sciences, Science of Polymeric Materials, Cellulose Science;“Material Science”,Physics of Biomaterials, Wood Based Materials and Timber Sciences, Sustainable Material Design.

In the presentation, at first, professor Matsumoto will briefly summarize the research area of these 5 laboratories related to biomass chemical utilization and introduce recent achievements. And then, recent progress in lignin chemistry achieved in the wood chemistry laboratory of the University of Tokyo will be discussed. Finally emphasize that chemistry research is essential for the future development of wood utilization.
