报告主题二：Torrefied Biomass Pellets – An emerging Bioenergy Carrier

报告内容：Densified wood pellets are the most popular solid biofuel widely used in Europe and North America for power generation and/or CHP (Combined Heat and Power). Although wood pellets have many advantages over wood residue itself in regards to energy density, combustion uniformity and efficiency, and easiness of transportation, they do have other drawbacks such as easy to be moulded and decayed during storage due to their water/moisture absorption.

Torrefaction, a mild pyrolysis pre-treatment process, can remove water and some biogases from biomass residue, making biomass more hydrophobic and more energy densified. The pellets made from torrefied biomass have showed equal to or better burning performance and grindability than that of coal while having much lower NOx and SOx emissions than coal and regular pellets.
